Reasons and Analysis of Temperature Errors in Thermistor Temperature Transmitters

Time : 2024-06-07

Thermal resistance is one of the common sensors for measuring temperature, and the types of thermal resistance sensors include Pt100, Pt1000, Cu50, Cu100, etc. Taking a three wire thermistor as an example, PT100 means that when the temperature is 0 ℃, the resistance value between the blue and red wires is 100 Ω.
A thermistor temperature transmitter uses a thermistor as the temperature measuring element to transmit temperature signals to the transmitter module. After signal processing, it is linearly converted into standard current signals, voltage signals, or communication signals, making it easy to collect temperature parameters and subsequent operation control.

What if there is an error between the temperature parameters transmitted from the thermistor temperature transmitter and the actual temperature value? Don't panic, we can investigate the following three possible scenarios first.
Reason 1: The on-site thermistor type does not match the input signal type of the transmitter
We know that there are many types of thermistors. If the on-site model is PT100, but the purchased transmitter is a PT1000 input signal, or if the purchased transmitter is a thermocouple transmitter, the output signal will be inaccurate. So it is recommended to use the same type of temperature transmitter as the on-site temperature sensor.
Reason 2: Incorrect wiring
Our thermal resistance temperature transmitters are usually three wire input. Some customers have a 2-wire thermal resistance on site. Therefore, when wiring, we first connect 4 and 6, and then short circuit the wire from terminal 4 to connect it to 1 (according to the wiring diagram on the product).

Reason 3: Insufficient working power supply or excessive backend load
A commonly used method for thermal resistance temperature transmitters is to transmit a standard signal of 4-20mA. If it is found that the output is smaller than the theoretical value and no other issues are found, then it is necessary to consider whether the power supply is insufficient or the backend load is too large.
